Chris Bustard Memorial Snow Race and Relay
Chris Bustard was a kind-hearted friend and adventurer to so many of us. He was hit and killed by a car while out for a run in Dec 2022. He leaves behind a wife, Kate, and young child, Teddy. This memorial race serves to remember and honor him by bringing together a community of people to take part in the kind of activities that brought him so much joy. Please join us for a day of outdoor fun, socializing, and remembrance. Additional contributions to his son’s education fund are requested.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
You can participate as an individual racer or as a relay team. Or not race at all, and just join as a recreational participant! You skin or snowshoe from the base of Dartmouth Skiway to the summit then transition to downhill skiing in the designated transition area. Or, if you are on a relay team, you can transition to the next racer at either the top or bottom transition areas.
There is a long course (3 laps of the mountain) and a short course (1 lap).
There will be a cut-off at 11:15AM at the base of the hill. No racers should continue up after that time.
-
The only requirement is that you have something on your head (helmet) and on your feet (skis or snowshoes) at all times!
Skinning uphill and skiing downhill with a backcountry touring set up is a popular choice, but you are also welcome to use snowshoes for both uphill and downhill - or carry skis on your back while snowshoeing uphill then carry snowshoes on your back as you ski down. Choose your own adventure!
But make sure you carry all your gear with you the whole time (no staging it ahead of time or leaving it behind).
-
Do the race with a group of friends! If doing the full course, you can have up to 6 participants, one for each leg (3 uphill legs and 3 downhill legs).
For relay participants who are going both uphill and down, you will transition to your next teammate at the bottom transition area.
If you are transitioning at the top area, participants that are only doing the downhill portion can ride the lift to get to the exchange point at the top of the hill (lift tickets sold separately).
All exchanges between relay participants must happen at the top or bottom transition point. -
Yes! Tacos are included in your race registration. You will have the option of buying other food and drink from the Dartmouth Skiway cafeteria.
-
This event isn’t really about awards, but we may still have a few to give out. At 12PM, we will congregate to announce the top three finishers of the short course and the long course for both the individual racers and the relay teams.
