Bindings.
Tech bindings are the way to go. Light, strong, simple. They’re not made for ripping groomers but they are proven to perform in even the most challenging terrain.
Boots.

Poles.
If they are pointy and have a wrist strap, they’ll probably work. Fiberglass is most common but aluminum (more resilient) or carbon fiber (lighter weight) work too.
Skins.
If you buy race skis, you’ll need specific skins for those skis too. You can order pre-made ones or buy a role of skin and sew in your own tip attachments. Race skins don’t have a tail attachment.
Helmet.
This is a dangerous sport. Helmets are required. Most racers wear climbing helmets for East Coast races, but ISMF standards require helmets with a ski mountaineering certification.
